Licensed Concrete Contractor | San Diego County
Custom patterns and color — built for San Diego's outdoor living spaces.
San Diego Concrete Co. installs stamped concrete in San Diego and throughout San Diego County for patios, pool decks, driveways, and walkways. San Diego has one of the strongest markets for decorative concrete in Southern California — the combination of year-round outdoor use, high property values, and HOA-governed communities creates consistent demand for concrete that looks as good as it performs.
Stamped concrete work is time-sensitive. Patterns are pressed into the surface during a specific window before the concrete sets — that window is shorter in warmer weather, and San Diego's sun affects timing even on mild days. We crew and schedule stamped work accordingly so the pattern is pressed at the right moment and the release agent is applied correctly. Errors at that stage are expensive to fix.

Pattern and color selection - We go through pattern and color options with you before the job is scheduled. Base color, release agent color, and pattern are all selected together — the combination determines how the finished surface looks. HOA finish requirements are confirmed at this stage for communities that require approval before work begins.
Base prep and forming - Excavation, subgrade compaction, gravel base, and forming are completed to spec before the pour. Expansion joints are planned as part of the layout so they align with the pattern rather than cutting through it randomly.
Pour, stamp, and release - Concrete is placed and screeded. Once it reaches the right consistency, stamps are pressed in a consistent pattern across the full surface. Release agent is broadcast before stamping to prevent the stamps from sticking and to add the secondary color that creates depth in the finished look.
Seal at completion - Every stamped concrete job is sealed before we leave. Sealing locks in the color, protects the surface from UV fading and stain absorption, and slows surface wear. San Diego's sun is hard on unsealed decorative concrete — sealing is part of the installation.
WHAT WE DO
Stamped Concrete Patios
The most common application in San Diego. Patterns like flagstone, slate, or cobblestone combined with integral color or stain create the look of natural stone at a fraction of the material cost. Popular in HOA communities where natural flagstone may not meet finish requirements.
Stamped Pool Decks
Stamped concrete around pools adds a decorative surround while maintaining the slip-resistant texture needed for wet surfaces. Patterns are selected for appearance; the release agent combination is adjusted so the surface stays cool enough to walk on barefoot in San Diego's sun.
Stamped Driveways
A stamped driveway is thicker than a standard patio pour — typically 5 to 6 inches with reinforcement — to carry vehicle loads. Pattern and color options are the same. Stamped driveways are a visible upgrade that holds up well to daily use when installed correctly.
Walkways and Entry Areas
Front entry walkways, courtyard paths, and side-yard passages are strong candidates for stamped work. Smaller square footage means lower cost per project. A stamped entry walkway connects the look of the house to a stamped patio or pool deck without requiring the same budget.
Many planned communities in San Diego County require HOA approval before decorative concrete work begins. This is common in Carlsbad, Poway, San Marcos, and parts of Chula Vista. HOAs typically want to review the pattern, base color, and finish before issuing approval.
We provide finish samples and material documentation to support the approval process. Once HOA approval is confirmed, we schedule the job. We don't pour before approval is in hand.

COMMON QUESTIONS
How long does stamped concrete last in San Diego?
Stamped concrete installed over a proper base lasts 25 years or more. The main maintenance requirement is resealing every two to three years depending on sun exposure and use. San Diego's UV is intense — without regular resealing, color fades and the surface becomes more porous over time. The structural concrete underneath is not affected by resealing intervals, but the appearance is.
How often does stamped concrete need to be resealed in San Diego?
Every two to three years for most San Diego installations. Surfaces in full sun near the coast may need resealing closer to the two-year mark. Areas with significant shade or limited sun exposure can often go three years. We seal every job at completion and provide a reseal schedule at handoff based on your specific site conditions.
Can stamped concrete be repaired if it cracks?
Surface cracks can be filled and the area touched up, but getting an exact match on pattern and color in a repair is difficult — the repaired section will typically be visible on close inspection. The best approach is prevention: proper base prep, correctly placed expansion joints, and regular sealing significantly reduce the likelihood of cracking in the first place.
What patterns are available for stamped concrete?
Common patterns include flagstone, ashlar slate, cobblestone, random stone, brick, and wood plank. Each pattern can be combined with a range of base colors and release agent colors. We go through the full pattern and color book with you before the job is scheduled so you can see what the combination will look like before any concrete is placed.
