Licensed Concrete Contractor | San Diego County
High-gloss and satin polished concrete floors for residential and commercial spaces throughout San Diego.
San Diego Concrete Co. provides concrete polishing in San Diego and throughout San Diego County for residential floors, garage floors, ADUs, and commercial spaces. Polished concrete uses diamond-abrasive grinding tooling to take an existing slab from raw concrete to a high-gloss or satin finish — durable, low-maintenance, and well-suited to San Diego's design market where polished concrete floors are common in modern homes, retail spaces, and light commercial buildings.
The result depends on the slab. Concrete polishing works on any structurally sound slab, but the aggregate, the flatness, and any existing coatings or patches affect what the finished floor looks like. We assess the slab condition before quoting a finish level so you know what to expect before we start grinding.

Slab assessment We evaluate the existing concrete for flatness, surface condition, any previous coatings or adhesives, and what aggregate is present. Patches, cracks, or prior coatings affect the process and the finished appearance — we account for those before recommending a finish level.
Coarse grinding Diamond-tooled grinders remove the surface layer and open the concrete. This step also flattens low spots and removes any existing coatings or contamination. The coarseness of this step sets up how well the subsequent finer passes can refine the surface.
Progressive polishing passes The floor is ground through progressively finer diamond grits — typically several passes — until the desired finish level is reached. A satin finish stops at a mid-range grit. A high-gloss finish continues to very fine tooling.
Densifier and guard application A penetrating concrete densifier is applied during the polishing process to harden the surface and reduce porosity. A concrete guard or sealer is applied at completion to protect against staining and surface wear. Polished concrete doesn't require the topcoat coatings that epoxy systems need, but a guard keeps the surface easier to maintain.
WHAT WE DO
Residential Interior Floors
Polished concrete floors in San Diego homes and condos are common in modern builds and remodels. The surface is durable, cleans easily, and doesn't require the regular maintenance that hardwood or tile grout demands. Finish levels from low-sheen matte to high-gloss are available depending on the design preference.
Garage Floors
Polished concrete is a practical alternative to epoxy coatings for garage floors. It doesn't peel, chip, or delaminate like coatings applied over contaminated concrete. Maintenance is straightforward — periodic damp mopping and occasional guard reapplication. A good choice for garages that double as workshop or hobby space.
ADU and Guest House Floors
With San Diego's active ADU construction market, polished concrete is a cost-effective finish for ADU floor slabs — the concrete that was going to be poured anyway becomes the finished floor. No additional flooring material cost, no installation layered on top. Finish it once and it's done.
Commercial and Retail Floors
Polished concrete is a standard choice for retail, restaurant, office, and light industrial floors throughout San Diego. It handles foot traffic well, is easy to clean, and holds up better than many floor finishes in high-use environments. We work with both new construction pours and existing slabs in tenant improvement projects.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Is polished concrete a good choice for garage floors in San Diego?
Yes, for most garages. Polished concrete holds up well to vehicle traffic, oils, and the temperature swings that San Diego garages see. Unlike epoxy coatings, it doesn't peel or chip when applied over contaminated concrete. The main limitation is that it's best suited for slabs in decent condition — heavily cracked or patched garage floors may not polish as cleanly as a sound slab will.
Can any concrete slab be polished?
Most structurally sound concrete slabs can be polished. The key variables are surface flatness, existing coatings or adhesives, and aggregate size — all of which affect the final appearance. Slabs with heavy patching, significant cracks, or very porous aggregate may not achieve a high-gloss finish, but can often reach a satin or matte level. We assess the slab before quoting a finish level so expectations are accurate.
How do you maintain polished concrete?
Maintenance is straightforward. Regular damp mopping with a neutral pH cleaner keeps the surface clean. A concrete guard reapplication every one to three years depending on foot traffic maintains stain resistance and keeps the surface easier to clean. Polished concrete doesn't need waxing, stripping, or the periodic refinishing that many other floor types require.
Is polished concrete slippery?
A high-gloss polished concrete floor is smoother than a broom-finished slab, but it's not unusually slippery under dry conditions. It becomes more slippery when wet — which is why polished concrete is an interior finish. We don't recommend polished concrete for outdoor surfaces, pool decks, or any area that sees regular water exposure. For interior floors, the slip resistance is comparable to polished tile.
