Licensed Concrete Contractor | San Diego County
We break it, load it, and haul it — and assess the base so the next pour lasts.
San Diego Concrete Co. handles concrete demolition and removal in San Diego and throughout San Diego County for driveways, patios, pool decks, sidewalks, and full slabs. Removal is where replacement projects actually start — and it's the stage where we find out what the base looked like under the existing concrete so the next pour doesn't fail the same way.
We break the concrete, load the debris, and haul everything off the property. There's no separate disposal step on the property owner's end. Broken concrete is recycled through local facilities where available. The base is assessed during the removal phase and rebuilt before any new concrete goes down — because pouring new concrete over a failed base replicates the same conditions that caused the first pour to fail.

Pre-demolition walkthrough We confirm the scope — what comes out, what stays, and what utilities or structures need to be protected during the work. For jobs that connect to a new pour, we discuss the base rebuild plan before breaking anything.
Breaking and demolition Concrete is broken using jackhammers or demolition equipment appropriate for the slab thickness and accessibility. Most residential driveway and patio slabs are broken and ready for loading in a single day.
Load and haul Broken concrete is loaded and removed from the property. No debris is left behind for the property owner to deal with. Concrete is hauled to recycling facilities where available — it doesn't go to general landfill when recycling is an option.
Base assessment Once the slab is out, we assess what's underneath. Inadequate gravel depth, eroded or settled subgrade, and clay that was never properly compacted are common findings in San Diego. These conditions are addressed and corrected before the next pour begins — not after.
WHAT WE DO
Driveway Tear-Out
The most common removal job in San Diego. Existing driveway concrete is broken, loaded, and hauled away. Most residential driveway removals are completed in a single day. The base is assessed at removal and rebuilt as part of the replacement project when the new pour follows immediately.
Patio and Pool Deck Removal
Patio slabs and pool decks in San Diego often need removal for renovation projects, pool remodels, or full patio replacements. Pool deck removal requires attention to surrounding tile, plumbing, and equipment — we assess access and adjacency to the pool structure before the work begins.
Sidewalk and Pathway Removal
Individual sidewalk panels and full pathway removal for replacement projects. Right-of-way sidewalk work that requires a City of San Diego permit is coordinated before demolition begins. Panel-by-panel removal is available for projects that are replacing specific damaged sections rather than full runs.
Full Slab Demolition
Full slab removal for garage additions, ADU site prep, structural replacement, or major renovation projects. We work from the demo plan and coordinate with general contractors or project managers when the demolition is part of a larger permitted build. All debris is hauled off-site — no staging on the property.
Standalone concrete removal on private residential property in San Diego generally does not require a permit. Demolition that is part of a larger permitted construction project — an ADU build, garage addition, or structural renovation — falls under the permit for that project, and we coordinate accordingly.
Right-of-way demolition, such as removal of sidewalk panels along the street, requires a City of San Diego permit before work begins. We handle permit applications for right-of-way removal jobs and schedule around inspection requirements when applicable.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Do I need a permit for concrete demolition in San Diego?
Standalone removal on private residential property typically does not require a permit. If the removal is part of a larger permitted project — ADU, addition, structural renovation — it falls under that project's permit. Right-of-way work requires a City of San Diego permit before demolition begins. We confirm the permit requirement for your specific job during the estimate.
What happens to the removed concrete?
We load all broken concrete and haul it off the property. Concrete debris is taken to recycling facilities where available in San Diego County — it's a recyclable material that gets crushed and reused as base aggregate in road and construction projects. Nothing is left on the property for the owner to dispose of separately.
How long does concrete removal take?
Most residential driveway removals are completed in a single day. Patio and pool deck removal typically runs one to two days depending on the square footage and access. Full slab demolition for garage or ADU projects varies based on slab size and what equipment can reach the site. We give a realistic time estimate during the walkthrough before scheduling the job.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for demolition day?
Move vehicles off the driveway and clear the work area of furniture, planters, or anything else within the footprint of what's being removed. For pool deck work, pool equipment and anything on the deck should be relocated before we arrive. If we'll be working near irrigation lines, letting us know about their location helps avoid accidental damage during the break-out phase.
