How We Build Your Patio

Site walkthrough - We look at drainage, slope, how the space connects to the house and yard, and any HOA requirements that apply to finish or material choices.
Excavation and base prep - We excavate to the correct depth, compact the subgrade, and install a gravel drainage base so water doesn't pool under the slab over time.
Pour and finish - Concrete is placed, leveled, and finished to the texture and pattern you've selected. Expansion joints are placed throughout to manage movement from heat cycles.
Cure and seal - We apply a concrete sealer before the job is done. Coastal UV and salt air break down unsealed surfaces faster in San Diego than in most other climates — sealing is part of the installation, not an add-on.

Patterns are pressed into the concrete before it sets to simulate the look of brick, slate, cobblestone, or wood plank. Combined with integral color or surface stains for depth. A popular choice for pool surrounds and entertaining spaces throughout San Diego County.

Hardscape with Flagstone Accents

Flagstone set in a concrete base gives a natural stone look without the long-term maintenance issues of dry-laid stone. We combine concrete and flagstone elements in the same project where the design calls for it.

Do I need a permit for a concrete patio in San Diego?

Most standard residential patios on private property don't require a permit. If the patio is attached to the house, over a certain square footage, or includes structural elements like a covered patio or retaining wall, a permit may be required. We cover that during the estimate and handle the application when one is needed.

What's the difference between stamped concrete and flagstone?

Stamped concrete is poured concrete with patterns pressed into the surface before it sets — it can look like slate, brick, cobblestone, or other materials. Flagstone involves real stone pieces set in a concrete base. Both are options we work with, and we can combine them in the same project where the design calls for it.

How long before I can use a new patio?

Light foot traffic is generally safe after 24 to 48 hours. Furniture can go back after about a week. Full cure takes approximately 28 days — during that period the concrete continues hardening and reaching its full strength. We'll walk you through the timeline when we complete the job.

Does San Diego's weather affect concrete patios?

It does in a few ways. Coastal UV is intense and breaks down unsealed concrete faster than in most other climates. Salt air near the coast can work into the surface over time. We seal every patio at completion and recommend resealing every two to three years depending on sun exposure and how close the property is to the water.
