How Concrete Staining Works

Surface assessment and prep - The existing concrete is evaluated for condition, previous coatings, and porosity. Surface prep — cleaning, light grinding, or profiling — ensures the stain penetrates evenly. Existing sealers or coatings must be removed before any stain is applied.
Stain application - Stain is applied in the method specific to the product — acid stains are sprayed and worked in; water-based stains are applied by brush, roller, or sprayer depending on the surface and design. Application technique affects how the color distributes across the surface.
